well, since im from the north georgia mountains i should know, Helen is always a good place. the hotels there are a little outdated but its a great place for sightseeing and shopping. the drive their is beautiful... Dahlonega is great if your looking for history and good sweets....Tallulah Gorge is a good family treat because of its views and the picnic area... A ride on Ga Highway 52 from Gainsville to Chatsworth is amazing it drives by many state parks... Amicilola Falls in Dawson County is awesome. its the tallest waterfall east of the mississippi river and has many picnic areas and a restaurant at the very top... Ellijay is a good place for the shopper. its on Ga 515 and is growing alot, the appalachian trail starts near it and their are two mountain ranges within the county. several waterfalls too. Its especially interesting in October when the Apple Festival comes to town.

Lookout Mountain is a great place to go. It's on the Georgia, Tennessee border. In close proximity is Ruby Falls, Rock City, a great civil war memorial park, and a few different national parks. The top of lookout mountain and on the way down has some cute shops and a couple restaurants.

Go to Helen Ga. It is a total tourist trap, but kind of fun. It is a town built to look like a Swiss Village. Its free to wander around town and you can rent innertubes and float down the Chattahoochee river (before ATL dumps all the sewage into it).

go to the town of toccoa, its about an hr. and a half north of atl, take 85 north, you'll see exit signs for it. theres a beatuiful waterfall at toccoa falls college, and you can visit Tallulah Gorge, which is very pretty. visit http://gastateparks.org/net/go/parks.aspx?locationid=46&s=0.0.1.5 for more info on the park.

One of my favorites is to take 575 & 515 to Blue Ridge, then 60 through Suches down to Dahlonega, 400 back to Atlanta. Many side sights, easy to drive, very beautiful.

The beaches are constantly a reliable wager. i'm from Ohio yet have vacationed in NC for numerous years. like it. If it truly is available, bypass to Wilmington. Very ideal city with a lot to do
